Help help help with donated books

Hi,

We’ve just received a huge book donation, which is awesome. However, I need to make a record of each donated item for the University’s development records. I need your help!

There is a big stack of books in front of the fireplace in my office. I need to record the title, author, and most importantly, VALUE, of each item. To figure out the value, simply google the book title and author and find a price for the edition. These books are fairly old, so you will want to find the used or cheapest price.

For example: Sisterhood Is Global by Robin Morgan. I did a google search, and looked at the amazon.com result. The new paperback book is $29.95, but the donated edition is older and would not cost this much. Thus, I’m going to go with the used price of $7.48 – because the book is indeed “used.” So the record will look like: Sisterhood Is Global, Robin Morgan, $7.48.

If you would, make a Word or Excel document with this info in this order: title, author, dollar value. And then email it to me (ezell@email.unc.edu). Anything that you can’t figure out just leave aside for me (there are some random journals and manuscripts, don’t worry about those). It is also really important to make sure that we’re not duplicating the info, so once you’ve logged in your books, please clearly indicate that the book has been recorded – say, put a sticky note on the book or on the stack. You can leave the books in the library or return them to my office.

Thanks so much!

Elissa
